As Indiaโs food and beverage sector faces losses from power disruptions and barriers to exports due to green compliance requirements, GoodEnough Energy expects significant adoption of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) across the industry. Leading this shift, CMIL, a prominent manufacturer and exporter of malted drinks, cereals, and dairy products, has partnered with GoodEnough Energy to deploy a 2 MWh BESS at its Greater Noida facility.
This move makes CMIL the first food and beverage manufacturer in the Delhi NCR region to adopt advanced liquid-cooled BESS technology for green manufacturing operations. The company plans to expand battery storage capacity to 5 MWh over the next three years, facilitating compliance with international green standards and enabling market access in the UK, US, and other export destinations.
Deepak, Managing Director of CMIL, said:
“As India emerges as the food basket of the world, sustainable manufacturing is critical. This partnership with GoodEnough Energy is a transformative step toward green production, ensuring power reliability and opening doors to international markets with stringent green compliance requirements.”
CMIL, operational since 1992, operates a state-of-the-art facility with advanced Spray Drying, Extrusion, and Roasting technologies, producing a wide range of malt-based drinks, cereals, dairy products, and food ingredients for retail and institutional buyers. Despite strong international performance, frequent 2โ3 hour daily power cuts had forced reliance on diesel generators, limiting the companyโs ability to meet global green standards.
Adit Agarwal, Executive Director of GoodEnough Energy, added:
“CMILโs adoption of BESS demonstrates the business case for energy storage in Indiaโs food processing sector. The installation addresses operational efficiency, cost savings, and environmental compliance simultaneously.”
The 2 MWh installation comprises eight 250 kWh BESS units distributed across CMILโs manufacturing plants, providing uninterrupted power to Spray Drying units, Extrusion facilities, and Roasters. The system is expected to prevent potential losses of โน100โ150 crore over its operational lifetime by eliminating diesel dependency, minimizing downtime, and ensuring green certification compliance.
CMIL supplies national dairy companies, state nutrition programs, defence establishments, and institutional buyers. The new BESS deployment positions the company to meet international green manufacturing requirements and access premium export markets. It is among the largest BESS installations in Indiaโs food manufacturing sector and is expected to inspire broader adoption across the industry, particularly among manufacturers navigating unreliable power and strict pollution norms.
