Yusen Logistics Philippines, Inc. has signed a supply agreement with ACEN Renewable Energy Solutions (ACEN RES) to power its head office in Parañaque City with 100% renewable energy, reinforcing its commitment to environmental sustainability.

ACEN RES, the retail electricity arm of the Ayala group, will supply renewable power to Yusen Logistics under the government’s Green Energy Option Program (GEOP), enabling the company to directly source electricity from licensed renewable energy providers.

Mitsutaka Matsubara, President of Yusen Logistics Philippines, said the transition aligns with the company’s climate targets, which include reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 45% by 2030 from a 2022 baseline and achieving net-zero emissions across all services by 2050. He highlighted the company’s guiding philosophy of “Jibun goto,” which emphasizes proactive ownership of challenges.

Sheila Mina, Vice President and Head of Account Management at ACEN RES, welcomed Yusen Logistics into its growing portfolio of sustainability-focused partners. She said the move demonstrates leadership in decarbonising the logistics sector and noted that the company has been awarded ACEN RES’s “Powered by Renewable Energy” badge in recognition of its commitment.

The shift is being facilitated through the Green Energy Option Program, a voluntary mechanism under the Renewable Energy Act of 2008 that allows qualified electricity consumers to source their power requirements entirely from renewable energy suppliers.

According to the Energy Regulatory Commission’s latest Competitive Retail Electricity Market report, ACEN RES currently leads the GEOP market with a 57% share, making it the dominant supplier under the programme.

The agreement marks another step in strengthening corporate participation in the Philippines’ clean energy transition.
