Alliance High School has been commissioned with a 151 kW rooftop solar PV system integrated with 265 kWh of battery energy storage, marking the first pilot installation under Kenya Public Schools Solarisation Programme.

The system was delivered by Jupiter Energy Solutions and operates as a behind-the-meter embedded generation plant, directly supplying electricity to the school’s facilities. Solar power has been designated as the primary energy source, while existing generator capacity will remain on standby as backup. A solar water heating system is also planned to replace conventional boiler infrastructure.

The installation forms part of a $280 million (Sh45 billion) national programme targeting 3,213 public schools across Kenya. Financing support for the initiative is being provided through a concessional credit facility extended by Kenya Commercial Bank, which acts as the debt provider under the government-led rollout framework.

Although specific financing terms have not been publicly disclosed, the structure indicates centralized funding at the national level, with phased deployment as installations progress. The solar assets are expected to remain publicly owned under the programme framework, with individual schools functioning as end-users of the electricity generated.
