In 2025, Iberdrola recorded the largest tax contribution in its history, paying a total of €10.41 billion in all the countries where it operates. This information was released through the company’s 2025 Fiscal Transparency Report, which outlines its tax commitments and results for the year. Spain continued to be the country where Iberdrola made its highest tax contribution. In 2025, the company paid almost €4.7 billion in taxes there, an increase of 8 percent compared to 2024. This reinforces Spain’s position as the company’s main tax contributor, even though around two-thirds of Iberdrola’s business operations and nearly 75 percent of its assets are located in other countries.

One of the main reasons for the large contribution in Spain is the number of electricity-specific taxes applied to the energy sector. Iberdrola is subject to 41 such taxes in Spain, compared to only 28 across the other 31 countries where the group operates. As a result, Spain accounts for 79 percent of all electricity-related taxes paid by the company worldwide. Globally, Iberdrola dedicated 44 percent of its 2025 profit to taxes directly linked to its financial results. Over the past five years, the company has paid more than €45 billion in taxes. This amount is similar to all the dividends paid to shareholders from 2001 to 2026, showing the scale of its fiscal contribution over time.

Iberdrola considers tax contribution to be an essential part of its social responsibility. The company follows a responsible taxation model based on strict compliance with regulations, transparency, and alignment between its economic activity and the taxes it pays. It also maintains a cooperative relationship with tax authorities and voluntarily takes part in cooperative compliance programmes in several countries, including Spain, the United Kingdom, Brazil, France, Portugal and Australia. Since 2019, Iberdrola has voluntarily published its Tax Transparency Report and its Country-by-Country Report, well before such disclosures became regulatory requirements.

This commitment has helped Iberdrola become a global reference for good tax governance and transparency. In 2025, the company renewed its Fair Tax Mark certification, achieving an improved score. It also secured first place in the Tax Responsibility and Transparency Index, which evaluates the tax practices, governance and clarity of information provided by major multinational companies. Additionally, Iberdrola’s tax compliance system continued to meet the UNE 19602 standard, which it has maintained for seven consecutive years without any non-conformities.
