Citicore Renewable Energy Corporation (CREC) has successfully energized its 125MWp Citicore Solar Pangasinan (CS Pangasinan) project located in Sta. Barbara and Calasiao, marking a key milestone in the company’s efforts to support the Philippines’ renewable energy transition.

The solar facility is expected to generate approximately 202GWh of clean electricity annually, sufficient to power between 90,000 and 100,000 households. It is also projected to reduce carbon emissions by nearly 120,000 metric tons each year.

The project incorporates an elevated solar panel design, developed to address local environmental conditions. By raising the panels, the installation enhances resilience against flooding while improving airflow and drainage, ensuring stable power generation in adverse weather conditions.

“Our responsibility to deliver clean energy solutions includes not only sustainability, but also resilience,” said Oliver Tan, President and CEO of CREC. He added that the company is integrating durable materials and adaptive engineering approaches across its renewable energy projects.

In addition to power generation, CREC plans to expand its AgroSolar initiative at the site, allowing agricultural activities to continue beneath and between solar panels. The initiative aims to support local farmers while maintaining land use efficiency and contributing to food security.

The CS Pangasinan project was awarded a long-term offtake agreement under the Green Energy Auction Program Round 2, a government-led mechanism designed to accelerate renewable energy deployment.

The commissioning follows the recent energization of CREC’s 69MWp solar project in Negros Occidental, further strengthening the country’s power supply, particularly during peak demand periods.

The Pangasinan project also contributed to local economic development, generating nearly 1,000 jobs during the construction phase, with ongoing operations expected to continue sourcing talent from the local community.

CREC stated that it has now energized more than half of its commitments under the auction program and plans to bring its remaining projects online in the coming months. These developments form part of the company’s broader target to achieve 5GW of renewable energy capacity within five years, aligning with the Philippines’ long-term energy transition goals.
