The Maharashtra state cabinet has approved the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy for 2026, aiming to position the state as a leader in advanced technology and innovation. The policy focuses on using AI across key sectors such as healthcare, education, and agriculture to improve services and boost overall development.
At the center of this policy is the MAJESTIC – (Maharashtra Accelerating Green Energy and Storage Technologies Integration in Connected Grid) project, which stands for Maharashtra Center for AI Strategy and Technological Innovation. This initiative is designed to act as a major hub connecting government bodies, private companies, and academic institutions. Its goal is to support the development of AI solutions that address the specific needs of people in the state.
One of the main priorities of MAJESTIC is to build a strong data infrastructure. It plans to create data lakes and advanced computing systems that will help researchers and startups access quality data and processing power. This will make it easier for smaller players to work on AI projects without depending on large technology companies.
The project will also focus on skill development by introducing training and upskilling programs. The government plans to work with educational institutions to develop AI-focused courses, helping students and professionals prepare for future job opportunities.
In addition, MAJESTIC will promote AI projects that benefit society. These include improving farming outcomes, supporting better healthcare in rural areas, and making public services more efficient. Overall, the policy aims to drive both economic growth and social development through the use of AI.
