NTPC Group has crossed a major milestone of 90 GW in installed power generation capacity, reinforcing its position in strengthening India’s energy security and supporting the country’s clean energy transition. The achievement comes after the successful completion of trial operations of Unit 2 (800 MW) at Patratu Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (PVUNL), a subsidiary project comprising three 800 MW units.
NTPC Limited stated that PVUNL, incorporated on October 15, 2015, is a joint venture in which NTPC holds a 74% stake through its subsidiary, while Jharkhand Bijli Vitran Nigam Limited holds the remaining 26%. The project is designed to deliver reliable and affordable electricity through efficient operations, adoption of advanced technologies, and optimal resource utilization.
With this addition, the NTPC Group’s operational capacity now exceeds 90 GW across India, while around 32 GW of capacity is currently under construction. The company has set an ambitious target of achieving 149 GW total installed capacity by 2032, including 60 GW from renewable energy sources.
In FY26, NTPC added 5,488 MW of renewable energy capacity across solar, wind, and pumped storage projects, further accelerating its clean energy transition.
The company continues to maintain a diversified energy portfolio spanning thermal, hydro, solar, and wind power, ensuring reliable and affordable electricity supply nationwide. Beyond power generation, NTPC is also expanding into emerging sectors such as e-mobility, battery storage, pumped hydro storage, waste-to-energy, nuclear power, and green hydrogen solutions, aligning with India’s long-term decarbonization goals.
