Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) has invited open bids for a major battery energy storage project in West Bengal as part of India’s growing efforts to strengthen clean energy infrastructure and improve grid reliability. The tender has been issued under reference number CC/T/W-BESS/DOM/A04/26/07448 and is identified as Package WB-BESS-05.
The project forms part of a larger state-wide initiative aimed at developing a total standalone Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) capacity of 750 MW / 3000 MWh across multiple locations in West Bengal through a Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) process. The overall program is expected to support the integration of renewable energy into the electricity network while improving grid flexibility and stability.
Under the current tender package, POWERGRID plans to establish a 250 MW / 1000 MWh Battery Energy Storage System at Goaltore in West Bengal. The large-scale storage facility is expected to play an important role in balancing power supply and demand, storing surplus renewable energy, and ensuring a more reliable electricity system.
The tender falls under the Works category within the power and energy sector. Interested bidders can participate in the procurement process through the PRANIT e-tendering portal. The tender is available under RFX Number 5002005412. Although the estimated tender value and Earnest Money Deposit (EMD) have been listed as zero, bidders are required to pay a non-refundable tender fee of โน25,000 to access and submit bids.
According to the tender schedule, the documents were published and made available for download on June 1, 2026. Interested companies can purchase the tender documents until June 20, 2026. Online submission of bids also commenced on June 1 and will remain open until June 22, 2026, at 11:00 AM. The electronic opening of bids is scheduled for June 22, 2026, at 11:30 AM.
