The newly commissioned solar installation increases the total rooftop solar capacity at the Lok Bhavan campus to 635 kW, reinforcing the Odisha government’s commitment to clean energy and reduced dependence on conventional power sources. The project was executed by NBCC (India) Limited as part of broader efforts to integrate renewable energy solutions into public buildings.

Spread across multiple facilities within the Lok Bhavan complex, the rooftop solar installations include administrative buildings, residential quarters, wellness facilities, garages, and the campus energy park. The largest individual installation, with a capacity of 191 kWp, has been deployed at the Abhishek Banquet Hall.

The project is expected to generate substantial quantities of clean electricity, contributing to lower energy costs and reduced carbon emissions. By harnessing solar energy, the facility will support the state’s efforts to enhance energy efficiency while promoting environmentally responsible infrastructure development.

Speaking on the occasion, Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati emphasized the importance of renewable energy adoption in achieving long-term sustainability objectives and supporting India’s clean energy transition. The initiative reflects Odisha’s growing focus on expanding rooftop solar deployment across public institutions and encouraging greater use of renewable energy technologies.

The commissioning of the rooftop solar plant aligns with national efforts to accelerate solar adoption under various clean energy programmes, including the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, which aims to increase distributed solar generation across the country.

With the addition of the new solar facility, Lok Bhavan stands as an example of how government infrastructure can contribute to India’s renewable energy ambitions while supporting energy security, environmental stewardship, and sustainable development.
