The National Solar Energy Federation of India (NSEFI), through its newly established subsidiary, NSEFI Sustainable Energy Federation of Industry, has formally launched its Southern Regional Committee Chapter in Chennai. The initiative marks a significant step toward strengthening decarbonisation advocacy and accelerating the adoption of clean energy technologies across Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Kerala.
The launch event was held on June 10, 2026, at the Taj Connemara Hotel in Chennai and was attended by senior dignitaries from the Central and State Governments, along with key stakeholders from the renewable energy sector.
Established to consolidate electricity and industrial decarbonisation efforts under a unified platform, the NSEFI Sustainable Energy Federation of Industry will focus on providing policy advocacy, industry representation, and knowledge support to governments and stakeholders. The newly formed Southern Regional Committee will facilitate regular engagement with state governments while promoting the development of solar, wind, energy storage, green hydrogen, and other emerging clean energy technologies across the region.
Speaking at the launch, Shri R. Chellappan, Chairman of the Southern Regional Committee, emphasized the importance of coordinated industry representation in accelerating the clean energy transition.
โThe establishment of the Southern Regional Committee marks a pivotal moment for the renewable energy sector in South India. We are committed to providing robust advocacy and knowledge support to ensure faster and more coordinated growth of clean energy across the region,โ he said.
He further noted that unified policy representation through collaboration between NSEFI Federation and state associations would support faster policy formulation in the renewable energy sector, helping India achieve its Net Zero targets, Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) commitments, and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) objectives while addressing regulatory requirements at both state and national levels.
The launch event brought together renewable energy developers, EPC companies, manufacturers, investors, policymakers, and industry leaders to discuss strategies for regional collaboration and the advancement of South India’s clean energy ecosystem.
The formation of the Southern Regional Committee is expected to strengthen industry-government engagement and play a key role in shaping policies that support the growth of renewable energy and industrial decarbonisation across southern India.
