Aster DM Quality Care, one of India’s leading healthcare providers, in partnership with Oyster Renewable Energy Pvt Ltd, has commissioned a 10 MW solar power project to meet the clean energy requirements of Aster Medcity in Kerala. The project represents a significant step in Aster’s efforts to develop more sustainable and energy-efficient healthcare infrastructure.
Developed by Oyster Renewable Energy, the ground-mounted solar project is located at Ambalathara and adjoining villages in Hosdurg Taluka of Kasargod district. The facility incorporates high-efficiency bifacial solar modules designed to perform effectively under Kerala’s tropical climatic conditions.
The project has been designed to provide reliable and cost-efficient renewable electricity to support Aster Medcity’s round-the-clock power requirements. It is expected to generate approximately 17.7 million units (MUs) of renewable electricity annually and meet more than 90% of the hospital’s total energy requirement through captive power.
Electricity from the project is supplied through Oyster Green Hybrid Two Private Ltd, in which the Aster Group holds a 26% equity stake. Aster DM Quality Care has invested ₹3.87 crore in the project.
Once fully operational, the solar facility is expected to reduce approximately 23,138 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually, helping significantly lower the carbon footprint associated with Aster Medcity’s operations. The current commissioning represents the project’s first operational phase, with full commissioning planned in subsequent phases.
Siddharth Bhatia, Managing Director and CEO of Oyster Renewable Energy Pvt Ltd, said the Aster Medcity project is the company’s second-largest solar installation for a healthcare institution to date. He noted that healthcare facilities require uninterrupted and reliable electricity and that the project has been engineered to meet those requirements while contributing to Kerala’s sustainability goals and India’s broader clean energy transition.

He added that the 10 MW project will enable Aster Medcity to meet a substantial share of its electricity requirements through renewable energy while helping reduce the environmental footprint of its operations. Aster plans to continue exploring and investing in solutions aimed at making its healthcare infrastructure more resilient, efficient and sustainable.
The commissioning highlights the increasing adoption of renewable energy by energy-intensive sectors such as healthcare, where facilities require reliable electricity around the clock. The project also supports Aster DM Quality Care’s broader efforts to integrate sustainability into its infrastructure and reduce dependence on grid-based fossil fuel electricity.
