NTPC and the Government of Rajasthan Enter into MoU to Develop 925 MW Solar Park in Jaisalmer

The solar park will be developed in Nokh, Jaisalmer, approximating an investment of Rs 4000 crore. It will be spread over an area of 1,850 hectare and it will be the first project post announcement of the solar policy in December 2019, according to a news report.

The solar policy launched last month aims to achieve a target of 30,000 MW solar power projects. RRECL is also in talks with three other Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSUs) to  set up Ultra Mega Renewable Energy Parks in joint venture. 

Ajitabh Sharma, Chairman, Rajasthan Renewable Energy Corporation Limited (RRECL) was quoted by a news media saying, “We have already had several rounds of discussions with NTPC and they have shown willingness to develop the park. While we have ticked most of the boxes, which are critical to the project, there are a couple of aspects that need to be finalised by NTPC. We are expecting the process to end very soon for the MoU to be signed.”

Further development by RRECL are underway to develop solar parks in collaboration with Power Finance Corporation, Solar Energy Corporation of India and National Hydroelectric Power Corporation.

Post announcement of Rajasthan solar policy in December last year, Reliance Industries, Eden Renewables and Adani Group have proposed to invest Rs 2,072 crore in the renewable energy sector and develop solar parks, according to a news media report.

Further, Eden Renewables plans to invest Rs 1,572 crore to set up 300MW solar project and Adani Group will invest Rs 500 crore for 50MW wind energy project.
