Alpex Solar Limited has inaugurated a 2.2 GW G12R TOPCon solar cell manufacturing facility at the Kosi-Kotwan Industrial Area in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh. The company said the facility spans approximately 9 lakh sq. ft. and is the first integrated TOPCon giga manufacturing line in the state.
The new facility marks a step forward in Alpex Solar’s backward-integration strategy as the company expands from solar module manufacturing and EPC services into solar cell production. The company said the facility will strengthen its manufacturing capabilities and support its ability to serve India’s growing domestic solar PV market.
The plant will manufacture G12R TOPCon solar cells, a technology that Alpex Solar said is designed to deliver higher efficiency and power output. The company stated that the facility will add significant cell manufacturing capacity to its existing operations.
Ashwani Sehgal, Managing Director of Alpex Solar, said the facility represents the next stage of the company’s growth and its move toward greater backward integration into higher-efficiency solar cells. He also highlighted the support of the Uttar Pradesh government and other stakeholders in the development of the facility.
According to Alpex Solar CEO Aditya Sehgal, the 2.2 GW facility strengthens the company’s transition from a solar module manufacturer and EPC provider toward a more integrated renewable energy company. The company said the facility will enhance its technology and manufacturing capabilities.
With the addition of cell manufacturing, Alpex Solar’s capabilities now span solar cells, PV modules and EPC services, alongside its existing solar pump and aluminium frame businesses. The company said the integrated manufacturing platform is intended to provide greater control over critical inputs, technology and quality while improving its ability to respond to changing market requirements.
Alpex Solar said its manufacturing expansion also includes five new manufacturing units across Greater Noida, Kosi-Kotwan in Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. Construction at the Kosi-Kotwan facility is progressing as part of the company’s solar cell and module capacity expansion programme.
The company currently operates manufacturing facilities across Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh and offers an integrated portfolio comprising solar PV cells, modules, EPC solutions, solar pumps and aluminium frames. Alpex Solar employs more than 500 professionals and was listed on the NSE Emerge platform in February 2024.
The inauguration of the 2.2 GW facility adds to Alpex Solar’s manufacturing footprint as the company expands its presence across the solar PV value chain and increases its domestic solar cell production capabilities.
