NTPC Invites Bids to Develope 900-MW Solar Park in Cuba

NTPC Limited has invited bids from developers for building 900 MW solar PV parks in the Republic of Cuba said the official statement. “NTPC Limited, a corporate partner of the International Solar Alliance (ISA) has been chosen as the preferred partner for the implementation of 900 MW solar PV parks by the Government of Cuba,” it added.

NTPC and Union Electrica de Cuba (UNE) would work in unison for the implementation of the 900 MW solar PV parks in Cuba.

The government of Cuba, through its Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM), has taken support of the ISA for the implementation of 900 MW solar PV parks in 175 locations spread across all 15 provinces of Cuba.

NTPC Limited, under ISA Programme-6, shall be supporting UNE and MINEM in the selection process, signing of project agreements and will oversee project implementation till commissioning.

This 900 MW project, which is part of the planned 2,100 MW solar project in Cuba, is aimed at significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The annual generation is expected to be 2,400 MWhr per MW.

Cuba is a member country of the ISA. The ISA is a treaty-based organisation for increased deployment of solar energy technologies across the globe. It has over 101 signatory countries, of which 80 have ratified the framework.

The request for qualification (RFQ) tender process will start from March 2022 till May 2022.
