Oman’s Ministry of Energy and Minerals is identifying areas for green hydrogen and renewable energy-related investments with other governments. Once the areas are finalized, the department will look for interested investors.
The green hydrogen will be generated with the help of solar and wind energy and will be used for decarbonization of the local industries and attract cement, green iron and steel, aluminum, and heavy industries and the surplus will be exported.
The government is considering Al Shuwamiyah & Halaniyat Islands, Duqm, and Thamrait. They will also make regulatory policies for investment in the energy sector and release it by 2022 end.
The ministry also plans to set up a dedicated company for hydrogen-related investment. Companies including BP, TotalEnergies, and Shell have already invested in the country.
Recently, Scatec ASA has signed an agreement with ACME Group from India to establish a 50/50 joint venture to design, develop, build, own and operate a large-scale green ammonia facility in Oman.
