Recently, the “2.5MWp PV + 1.5MW/2.5MWh Energy Storage System+ 3MW Diesel Generation” off-grid micro-grid solution for Camp B9 in Iraq, provided by Kehua, was successfully put into operation. It is also the first benchmark demonstration project of Ministry of Oil (Iraq) and Ministry of Electricity (Iraq). This is the first photovoltaic energy storage power plant project in Iraq, which attracts great interest from the industry and joint concern from the Ministry of Oil (Iraq) and Ministry of Electricity (Iraq).
The PV+ESS+DG project for Camp B9 is located in Basra province, southern Iraq. The complete off-grid power supply system includes 2.5MW PV, 1.5MW/2.5MWh energy storage and 3 diesel generators of 3MW in total, maximizing energy utilization efficiency through multi-energy complementary and intelligent control.
In order to better ensure the long-term efficient and stable operation of the oil-area power grid, the project adopts “PV + Energy Storage System+ Diesel Generator + medium voltage substation + Energy Management System” for network operation. The harsh application scenarios also put forward severe challenges and requirements on the reliability of key equipment. The PV inverters and PCS products provided by Kehua for the project combine many advantages such as high safety, high efficiency, high protection and high intelligence, and have been widely used in the PV+ESS scenario. Meanwhile, the EMS operation logic is customized for this project, which monitors the whole power plant equipment in all aspects to ensure the safe and stable operation of the system, and delivers clean electricity to the oil area stably around the clock.
The project team from Kehua overcame many challenges such as windy and sandy construction environment, high quality requirements and rigorous approval of oil areas, and created the “Kehua speed” of starting construction and commissioning within half a year, from the time the project was awarded in December 2021 to the time of commissioning.
The project is expected to provide about 3GWh of green electricity to the local area annually, which is equivalent to saving 1,200 tons of standard coal annually and reducing the emission of various air pollutants, including about 90 tons of sulfur dioxide, 2,991 tons of carbon dioxide and 45 tons of nitrogen oxides, helping to transform the energy structure of Iraq.
With 34 years of experience for renewable energy, Kehua began to implement the concept of PV + ESS for the Future. For now, Kehua has received the TOP 10 solar inverter brands used in term-loan financed projects from Bloomberg and No.5 world storage inverter supplier from IHS Markit.
