He stated that this was in keeping with the country’s ambition to increase its renewable energy capacity to 25% by 2025 and to also allow the country to explore other sources of energy and optimize them.

“Among the strategies is we have discussed Mara for a possible cooperation with TNB in order to install solar panels on the roof in Mara building beginning from MRSM in an effort to reduce the energy usage,” he stated in a press conference.

He pointed out that renewable energy was a crucial strategy to combat climate change and global heating, which have a negative effect on the planet.

He said, “Realizing this, therefore we need a vast pool of talent and technical competence to meet the prospect for high-skilled labor demands in Malaysian energy-related industries.”

UniKL BMI has launched a new study program in sustainable energy in support of the mission. The graduates will receive professional certificates.

It also launched the construction of UniKL Sustainable Energy Lab at UniKL BMI. This building is the first in its type in the country and uses renewable energy and a clean energy approach.

The building will be used to support the Bachelor of Electrical Technology Engineering program in sustainable energy. It also serves as a research and development area, and a centre for the other flagship institutions.

This building will reduce carbon emissions by generating more electricity than it uses through sustainable energy-saving techniques.

UniKL expects to produce 1,000 graduates from the new program in technology engineering for the sustainable energy sector through the new programme.

UniKL received a sum of RM12.5 million for the project as well as its human capital development area in sustainability. Construction is expected to be completed by February 2023.
