Member of the Goa Legislative Assembly, Sudin Dhavalikar said that the central government has approved Rs 242 crore for projects in power infrastructure, including the replacement of old transformers. Rs. 467 crore was also sanctioned for smart pre-paid metering projects.
He stated that the infrastructure works included replacement of older transformers with new panels and transformers, reconditioning 33KV feeders, 11KV underground cable works, among other things.
Smart meters will have communication facilities, meter management system, and meter acquisition system. All data from meters will be analyzed and acquired for load forecasting and loss calculation. Remote connection and disconnection will be possible with the meter.
The department is also trying to reduce distribution losses, currently at 13%, to a single number.
He also mentioned plans to transform Panaji into a solar city. He said that Panaji is not the only city being considered for a solar city. He stated that India will see 37 new solar cities. People will still be inconvenienced by the work on the smart city. He said that when the work is done, those who oppose it will be satisfied. He said that revenue generation for the department has increased by 40%.
