Tenaga Nasional Bhd will install a rooftop solar PV system for Seng Hin Rubber (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd at the factory in Kelantan through its subsidiary GSPARX Sdn Bhd.
TNB stated that Seng Hin could enjoy an estimated electricity bill reduction of RM18.78 million over 21 years through the Supply Agreement with Renewable Energy.
Kamal Arifin A Rahman, a chief retail officer at TNB, stated that the installation of the solar photovoltaic systems at the Seng Hin factory site located in Kuala Krai in Kelantan is expected to be completed in August 2023.
“The green technology initiative will increase the impact of environmentally-friendly development as well as universal well-being, in line with TNB’s commitments to ESG targets.
He said that the agreement also included other smart energy solutions, such as green electricity tariffs, energy solutions that provide better energy efficiency, and energy monitoring systems that can lower carbon emissions.
The initiative aligns with the nation’s aspiration of becoming a carbon-neutral state by 2050. It aims to reduce 1,124 tonnes of carbon dioxide per year. This is equivalent to greenhouse gas emissions being captured by 20,624 trees in ten years.
Kor Hock Tart, Seng Hin’s managing director, said that the agreement allows Seng Hin to adopt green initiatives and support the government’s goal of carbon neutrality by 2050.
He said that the statement was also a sign of Seng Hin’s empowerment towards ESG, and the agricultural sector acts as a catalyst to encourage similar industries to adopt sustainable growth.
GSPARX has secured 357 projects to date with industrial, commercial, and government organizations, which have generated 249 MWp of solar power.
