​A signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Government of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, represented by the Department of Energy at the Prime Minister’s Office (DOE PMO) and the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA) was held virtually on 19 April 2023.
Signing on behalf of the Government of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam was Yang Mulia Pengiran Haji Jamra Weira bin Pengiran Haji Petra, Acting Permanent Secretary (Energy) at the Prime Minister’s Office, while ERIA was represented by its Chief Operating Officer, Mr Koji Hachiyama.
The MOU serves as a framework of cooperation between Brunei Darussalam and ERIA to further develop and promote collaboration in the field of energy on the basis of friendship and mutual benefits.
Cooperation under the MoU includes conducting training, workshops and other capacity-building activities, as well as research and study activities, in the areas of energy and emerging energy-related issues in Brunei Darussalam, including fossil fuels, power, sustainable energy, renewables, energy efficiency and conservation, next-generation vehicles, and new energy technologies such as hydrogen, battery storage, and carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS).
