Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL) has signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Tata Motors for a 9MWp on-campus solar facility with Tata Motors’ Pantnagar plant in Uttarakhand. This solar installation will be the largest on-campus solar facility within the state.
This solar project aligns effectively with Tata Motors’ sustainability objectives, aiming for a considerable reduction of approximately 25 tonnes of CO2/kWp in Uttarakhand. The project is set to be operational within half a year from the execution date of the PPA and will utilize ground-mounted units for its installation.
Previously, TPREL and Tata Motors have successfully established a 7 MWp solar venture at the Pantnagar manufacturing site. As a result of these endeavors, the total solar capacity of Tata Motors’ Pantnagar plant now stands at 16 MWp. The combined solar facilities are projected to generate 224 lakhs units annually, fulfilling nearly 60% of their yearly energy requirement.
Mr. Ashish Khanna, CEO, Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited, said, “Tata Power Renewables with this partnership with Tata Motors is supporting India’s green energy future. The 9MWp solar power installation resonates our commitment to fostering the widespread adoption of eco-friendly clean energy solutions across industries”.
Mr. Vishal Badshah, Vice President, Commercial Vehicle Operations, Tata Motors Limited, added, “We are pivoting our business and operations making sustainability a key priority to fulfill our aspiration of net zero emissions. Increasing sourcing and use of renewable energy with a mix of onsite and offsite interventions at all our plants is an important element of our strategy to decarbonise operations. The addition of this solar power installation by Tata Power will make our Pantnagar plant greener and more efficient.”
Mr. Srinath Sharma, Plant Head, Pantnagar, Tata Motors Limited, remarked, “As a signatory to the RE100, we are committed to using 100 percent renewable energy in our operations and have taken many steps toward this objective by gradually increasing the proportion of renewable energy. We are pleased to implement this solar project at our manufacturing facility which will further help us achieve our sustainability targets by reducing reliance on fossil fuels, while also helping save on electricity costs.”
Tata Power, in collaboration with its subsidiary companies, is committed to offer renewable energy solutions to endorse the RE100 initiative embraced by major corporations and to facilitate the nation’s shift toward clean energy. The corporation is engaged with its commercial and industrial clients to fulfill their demand for clean energy through expansive hybrid solutions, integration of battery storage systems, and the establishment of pumped hydro projects.
