DP World has achieved a nearly 50% reduction in carbon emissions from its UAE operations this year by transitioning to renewable power supplied by the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA).
DEWA has issued over 200,000 International Renewable Energy Certificates (I-RECs) to DP World in 2023, ensuring the electricity consumed is sourced from renewable origins.
DP World’s UAE facilities, including Jebel Ali Port, Jebel Ali Free Zone (JAFZA), and Drydocks World, are now entirely powered by renewables, surpassing the UAE’s nationwide goal of a 42% carbon emissions reduction by 2030.
This move aligns with DP World’s commitment to carbon neutrality by 2040 and net zero by 2050.
Maha AlQattan, DP Worldโs Group Sustainability Officer, emphasized the company’s dedication to global climate change efforts, highlighting that over 60% of DP World’s global electricity consumption is now derived from renewable sources.
The company has implemented various sustainability initiatives worldwide, including electrifying terminals, using biodiesel, and reducing global carbon emissions by 5% in 2022.
