In a pioneering move towards sustainable energy, the Uttar Pradesh government is poised to establish solar plants spanning a vast 1700-hectare stretch along the Bundelkhand Expressway. This ambitious venture marks the state’s foray into creating its inaugural solar expressway, with an anticipated power generation capacity of 550 MW. The primary objective is to illuminate approximately one lakh households situated along the expressway, contributing significantly to the state’s power supply.
The Uttar Pradesh Expressway Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA), a governmental body, will oversee the execution of this groundbreaking project, which boasts an estimated lifespan of 25 years. Progressing through the project’s initial stages, the Due Diligence Study has been completed, and the Expression of Interest (EOI) phase concluded in August 2023.
Notably, eight prominent solar power developers, including Tusco Ltd, Torrent Power Ltd, and Avaada Energy Ltd, presented their proposals to government authorities last month. This pivotal initiative aims to harness the expansive 296 km long four-lane Bundelkhand Expressway, utilizing the vacant space between the main carriageway and the service lane. This 15 to 20-meter-wide strip of land will be adorned with solar panels, effectively separating agricultural plots and incorporating fencing measures.
The imminent implementation of this solar expressway is poised to revolutionize the energy landscape of Uttar Pradesh, demonstrating the state’s commitment to sustainable development and renewable energy solutions.
