In an initiative to cut operational costs, San Andres Aqua Culture Corp. (Sanacor) has incorporated solar power into its shrimp farms in Sarangani, Mindanao, aiming to reduce electricity expenses.
Shawna Velasco, Sanacor engineer supervisor, highlighted that solar’s contribution to total electricity savings would range from 20 to 25 per cent.
Mindanao’s electricity costs are around 9 to 10 pesos per kilowatt-hour, the adoption of solar power significantly saves approximately P800,000 per month for one farm alone.
The move towards renewable energy not only focuses on cost efficiency but also aligns with environmental conservation efforts. Sanacor’s solar power utilizes Huawei’s energy inverters, facilitating efficient sun-to-electricity conversion.
Jesus Calasara Jr., Huawei’s smart photovoltaic (PV) service manager, emphasized the technology’s ability to detect power requirements, contributing to reduced energy expenses.
Despite intermittent energy challenges, Huawei inverters are designed to integrate renewable energy and grid electricity seamlessly. Calasara noted that various establishments nationwide, including hospitals, schools, malls, and residential areas, prioritize electricity from solar power.
