The Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA) Malaysia is strengthening efforts to explore offshore renewable energy opportunities as part of the country’s broader energy transition agenda.
On August 23, SEDA Malaysia conducted a site visit to the Centre for Offshore Renewable Energy (CEFORE) at Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT). The visit aimed to provide the delegation with a deeper understanding of offshore renewable energy development, ongoing research activities, and the potential of emerging technologies in Malaysia.
The SEDA Malaysia delegation was led by Ts. Azah Ahmad, SEDA Malaysia Authority Member. It also included Mr. Koh Keng Sen, Chief Operating Officer; Mr. Saiful Hakim Abdul Rahman, Chief Strategy Officer; Ts. Edisham Mohd Sukor, Director of the Market Operations Division; and other SEDA Malaysia officers.
The visit provided an opportunity for SEDA Malaysia and CEFORE to exchange knowledge and experiences on offshore renewable energy technologies. Discussions covered technology development, commercialization prospects, implementation challenges, and opportunities to strengthen Malaysia’s offshore renewable energy industry.
SEDA Malaysia also used the engagement to examine how innovation and renewable energy technologies could support future policy development. Insights from CEFORE’s research and expertise are expected to contribute to discussions surrounding Malaysia’s energy transition.
The engagement highlights SEDA Malaysia’s continued efforts to identify new renewable energy opportunities and promote technological innovation. Offshore renewable energy could play an increasingly important role in diversifying Malaysia’s clean energy portfolio and supporting the country’s long-term sustainability objectives.
