Assam’s Green Revolution: Budget 2024-25 Propels Growth with Electric Buses and Over 1000 MW Renewable Energy

In a recent address, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma hailed the Assam budget for the fiscal year 2024-25, drawing inspiration from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for India’s development. Crafted by Finance Minister Ajanta Neog, the budget stands at Rs 2.9 lakh crore, boasting a deficit of Rs 774.47 crore and proposing no new taxes. Sarma praised the pragmatic approach of the budget, which lays out a viable roadmap for sustainable growth while prioritizing the creation of employment opportunities.

The budget aims to position Assam among the top five states in India, focusing on sustainable growth and job creation. Sarma highlighted Assam’s economic growth, surpassing the national GDP rate, and doubling per capita income since 2016. Notably, the budget allocates a record-breaking capital expenditure, exceeding Rs 20,000 crore in 2024-25, demonstrating a commitment to infrastructure development.

Sarma emphasized initiatives to foster entrepreneurship and support women empowerment, including expanding the Orunodoi scheme and providing financial assistance to women entrepreneurs. Additionally, the budget prioritizes green growth, with plans to plant 3 crore saplings, introduce electric buses, and establish over 1000 MW of renewable energy and rooftop solar plants.

Furthermore, the budget focuses on the well-being of the tea garden community, invests in cultural heritage preservation, and supports infrastructural development projects like the Maa Kamakhya corridor and pilgrimage sites. Sarma’s commendation of the budget’s comprehensive approach underscores its significance in driving Assam’s progress towards sustainable development and economic prosperity.
