Saudi Arabia, through the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre, has finalized a collaborative agreement with a civil society organization to execute a water well project in Yemen.
The initiative aims to drill and develop wells in the Coast and Valley District in Hadhramaut Governorate, Al-Khawkha District in Hodeidah Governorate, and the Bir Ali area in Radum District, Shabwa Governorate.
Dr. Abdullah Al-Muallem, Director of the Centerโs Health and Environmental Aid Department, detailed the agreement’s components. The plan involves drilling and equipping eight new wells, interconnected with solar energy systems and equipped with 5-meter high tanks to ensure continuous water access.
Additional infrastructure includes the construction of a tower tank in the Al-Khawkha District and a surface tank in Rudum District.
The agreement extends to the rehabilitation of nine existing wells in Hadramaut and Hodeidah, connecting them to solar energy systems and providing 5-meter high tanks.
Furthermore, it includes capacity-building efforts for the Water Corporation’s staff, with 34 individuals undergoing training in field installation and maintenance work.
The installation of well components, accessories, and solar energy systems is expected to directly benefit 65,300 people. This collaborative initiative reflects Saudi Arabia’s commitment to supporting the water and environmental sanitation sector, contributing to alleviating the humanitarian crisis faced by the Yemeni people.
