Founded in 1949 under various partnerships and names—including Hindustan Electric and ABB Power Grids—the company has since transformed into Hitachi Energy, becoming a leading pioneer in the energy sector. Its first factory, launched in Vadodara in 1962, was just the beginning of its expansive growth and modernization efforts.
Today, Hitachi Energy in India is home to approximately 7,000 employees across 19 factories located in eight manufacturing sites, along with shared services and a global technology and innovation center in Chennai. This growth highlights the company’s dedication to the Make in India initiative, aiming to serve both domestic and global markets.

This multi-city event, spanning five months and covering seven cities, will touch upon the latest advancements in grid modernization, renewable energy integration, and digital transformation. The event will also include focused sessions on tailored industry solutions for power quality, data centers, rail, offshore wind, and more. With a core focus of helping customers and partners to gain a deeper understanding of Hitachi Energy expertise across both power and digital systems through in-depth knowledge session.

The company’s contributions in India align closely with national projects under Actions@75, having played a key role in achieving the “one nation, one grid” vision. Over a third of India’s renewable energy capacity utilizes Hitachi Energy’s technologies, which also facilitate connections to neighboring states for a more flexible regional grid. Additionally, the company supports half of India’s HVDC links, from the first at Vindhyachal to the latest bidirectional Raigarh-Pugalur link. In the transportation sector, Hitachi Energy has collaborated with Indian Railways to develop indigenous Scott Transformers essential for high-speed rail networks, and its power automation solutions are used in over 90% of the country’s metro systems.
