SunSource Energy, a prominent solar energy company, has successfully commissioned a solar power project for CtrlS, recognized as Asiaโs largest rated 4 hyperscale data center operator. According to the agreement, SunSource Energyโs open access solar power plant located in Gursarai, Jhansi district, Uttar Pradesh, will supply clean energy to the CtrlS Data Center in Noida.
The project is set to produce about 100 GWh of clean energy, which will offset more than 94,640 tonnes of CO2 emissions throughout its lifespan. This initiative will cover 60% of the annual energy needs of the Noida Data Center using renewable sources, effectively equating to the environmental benefit of planting 189,281 trees. This aligns with CtrlSโs objective to minimize its environmental impact and move towards carbon neutrality by 2030.
Santanu Guha, CEO of SunSource Energy, expressed his enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, โWe are glad that CtrlS – Asiaโs Largest Rated 4 Hyperscale data center operator, has chosen SunSource Energy to help accelerate their energy transition journey. As one of India’s leading solar power developers, we have been facilitating the energy transition of several C&I businesses for fourteen years with our solar solutions.
Dillip Guru, Senior Vice President – International DC Expansion, Renewable Energy and Edge Strategy, CtrlS, said, โAt CtrlS, sustainability and responsible growth are part of our DNA. With this project, we are a step closer towards our goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2030. We are happy to partner with SunSource Energy in this initiative.โ
The growth of data centers globally has significant environmental implications, with such facilities accounting for 1% of global energy-related greenhouse gas emissions. The rapid expansion of India’s data center market, expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 18.79% over the next five years, highlights the importance of sustainable development to meet the countryโs net-zero targets.
SunSource Energy, with its 14-year history in the renewable sector and presence in major Indian states, continues to support a diverse range of industriesโincluding data centers, food and beverage, automotive, cement, and pharmaceuticalsโin their shift to greener energy solutions.
