Excitement Peaks at LONGi Solar Decathlon Finale: Students Showcase Solar Innovations at Heriot-Watt University Dubai

On May 24, 2024, the final day of the LONGi Solar Decathlon unfolded with great excitement at the Heriot-Watt University Dubai Campus. This event marked the conclusion of a dynamic three-week period where students engaged in developing two solar projects. Leveraging the comprehensive range of LONGi products, the students showcased their innovative solutions to a distinguished panel of judges.

The judging panel included Ahmed Mohmed, Product Manager at LONGi; Nidhal Abdulaziz, Assistant Professor at Heriot-Watt Dubai; Hanna Nadrous, Technical Content Manager at Solarabic; Mohamed Fagir, Head of O&M at Siraj Power; Faryal Bhatti, Head of Product at LONGi; Habib Daaboul, Sales & Business Development at AGS; Rana Adnan and Amer Amin, Sales Managers at Nanosun.

The top-performing team, consisting of Asmaโ€™u Umar and Olamide Davidia Folorunsho, both in their third year of Mechanical Engineering and Energy Engineering, won an exclusive trip to China to visit LONGi’s facilities. The second-place team, Abdulazeez Ismaila, a fourth-year Mechanical Engineering and Energy Engineering student, earned an internship at LONGi Solar. The third-place team, made up of Syeda Sameeha Misbah and Apsara Sivaprazad, first-year students in Mechanical Engineering and Robotics Engineering, received a $500 cash prize. Additionally, Hans David Aquino and Rio Grace Cshekinah V. Araw, both first-year Mechanical Engineering students, who tied for second place, were offered internships at Siraj Power and PV Market.

LONGi MENA announced the launch of the Solar Decathlon Competition in collaboration with Heriot-Watt University, who served as the knowledge partner. This initiative is designed to foster innovation and practical skills among students in the solar energy sector.The competition provided a valuable platform for students to apply their theoretical knowledge to real-world scenarios. It underscored the commitment of LONGi and Heriot-Watt University to advancing renewable energy education and fostering industry collaboration.
