Nxtra by Airtel Unveils Second Edition of Sustainability Report for FY 2023-24

Nxtra Data Limited, a subsidiary of Bharti Airtel (Airtel), has released its second edition of the Sustainability Report for fiscal year 2023-24. The report underscores Nxtra’s commitment to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles, showcasing the company’s dedication to creating sustainable, digitized infrastructure designed for high-density workloads and scalable solutions.

Ashish Arora, CEO of Nxtra by Airtel, emphasized the importance of integrating intelligent infrastructure with sustainability. “The future of data centers depends on harmonizing innovative ESG initiatives with our operational model. Our sustainability report reflects our steady progress across environmental, social, and governance metrics, and this will remain a core focus for us,” Arora stated.

Key Achievements Highlighted in the Report:

  • Renewable Energy Usage: Nxtra transitioned to using 220,541 MWh of renewable energy, marking a 41% increase from the previous fiscal year.
  • Emissions Reduction: Scope 1 and 2 emissions were reduced by approximately 4% compared to the base year FY21, despite a 25% rise in power consumption.
  • Women’s Representation: The company achieved a 30% increase in female employees and introduced the NxtWave initiative, aimed at doubling women’s representation by FY26.
  • Safe Work Environment: Nxtra reported 4.3 million safe-man hours in construction activities.
  • Local Sourcing: The company achieved 99% local procurement, promoting responsible sourcing practices.

Nxtra’s mission centers on an “Intelligent by Design and Sustainable by Choice” approach, with a target to achieve net zero emissions by 2031. The company continues to invest in clean energy, water, and waste management innovations to support its operations and build resilient data centers.
