Indonesian Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia officially opened the 7th Indonesia-China Energy Forum (ICEF) in South Kuta, Bali, emphasizing the nation’s commitment to maintaining the stability of Chinese investments and advancing collaborative energy projects.
During the opening ceremony, Minister Bahlil welcomed Chinese investors, highlighting the vast potential for joint business development. “This forum is an opportunity to explore and establish the right strategies for our mutual growth,” Bahlil said, underscoring the critical role of the energy sector in fostering economic and technological progress.
Bahlil stressed the significance of the energy transition in meeting global decarbonization commitments. “Indonesia is dedicated to achieving a Net Zero Emission (NZE) goal in the energy sector. We have developed a comprehensive roadmap to guide our efforts,” he noted.
The Indonesian government is offering collaboration opportunities to China, leveraging the country’s substantial New and Renewable Energy (EBT) resources, including major hydroelectric projects in Kayan and Mamberamo. “These projects present significant opportunities for partnership. We need to work together to realize their full potential,” Bahlil added.
The future focus will be on downstreaming efforts oriented toward green energy and industry. “Electricity is crucial for implementing our green policies,” Bahlil explained. The strategy includes transitioning to renewable energy sources such as solar, hydro, geothermal, and hydrogen, while phasing out coal-fired power plants and adopting low-emission technologies like CCS/CCUS.
Bahlil also addressed the importance of balancing fossil energy development with clean energy infrastructure. “We are carefully evaluating our domestic energy needs and economic considerations,” he said.
In his closing remarks, Bahlil expressed gratitude to the Chinese government for organizing the forum and welcomed future collaborations. “This cooperation is fundamental for mutual benefit and investment comfort,” he emphasized.
Chinese National Energy Administration (NEA) Administrator Zhang Jianhua echoed similar sentiments, highlighting the promising prospects of the bilateral partnership. “Our shared vision in energy development positions us well in the international market,” Zhang said, noting the potential for technology and human resource transfers to enhance domestic energy security.
