DEWA and Expo City Dubai Discuss Strengthening Collaboration for Clean Energy and Sustainability

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), met with HE Reem bint Ebrahim Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Co-operation and CEO of Expo City Dubai Authority, to explore ways to enhance strategic collaboration in clean energy and sustainability. The discussion focused on expanding joint efforts to leverage DEWA’s expertise in delivering world-class services and adopting global best practices to promote sustainable development and reinforce the UAEโ€™s global leadership in the sector.

During the meeting, Al Hashimy expressed her appreciation for DEWA’s pioneering efforts in advancing the transition to clean energy, emphasizing their crucial role in strengthening the UAEโ€™s position as a major global advocate for sustainability. The conversation also highlighted the importance of joint initiatives in supporting global goals for accelerating the clean energy transition.

Al Tayer outlined DEWAโ€™s vision, strategies, and achievements in renewable and clean energy, aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for 2030. He underscored the UAE Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050, aiming for 100% clean energy capacity in Dubai by 2050. These strategies reflect the UAE’s leadership in renewable energy, positioning Dubai as a global hub for sustainability initiatives.

He also highlighted key projects like the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, the worldโ€™s largest single-site solar park. With a total commissioned capacity of 2,860 MW, using photovoltaic (PV) and Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) technologies, the solar park will contribute to reducing over 6.5 million tonnes of carbon emissions annually. By 2030, clean energy is expected to make up 27% of Dubaiโ€™s total energy production capacity.

Al Tayer emphasized DEWAโ€™s vital role in Dubaiโ€™s journey toward net-zero emissions by 2050 and reaffirmed the UAE’s commitment to tackling climate and environmental challenges with innovative solutions.

โ€œIn line with the vision of our leadership, the UAE continues to strengthen its global leadership in sustainability and clean energy. The strategic cooperation between DEWA and Expo City Dubai is a significant step towards achieving our ambitious goals, including reaching net zero by 2050,โ€ said Al Tayer.
