Renewable energy company Wyn Power Corp. has commenced the development of a 50-megawatt peak (MWp) solar power plant in Taysan, Batangas, Philippines. The project aims to enhance the country’s clean energy capacity by next year.
During a groundbreaking event, Wyn Power president and CEO Engr. Rodel B. Arada announced that the company is investing PHP 1.5 billion in the 48-hectare solar farm. Once operational, the facility is expected to generate approximately 74 million kilowatt-hours of renewable energy annually.
Arada highlighted that the solar farm will significantly benefit industries and consumers connected to Batangas Electric Cooperative II (BATELEC2) and other nearby cooperatives, strengthening the Luzon gridโs power supply.
Energy Assistant Secretary Mario Marasigan praised the initiative, emphasizing that the project aligns with the governmentโs renewable energy goals. The solar farm is part of the Department of Energyโs Green Energy Auction Program 2 (GEAP-2), which secured a green energy tariff of PHP 4.10 per kilowatt-hour in the December 2023 bidding round.
The solar facility will connect to the grid via a 2.3-kilometer transmission line linked to BATELEC2’s 69-kilovolt network. Wyn Powerโs renewable energy portfolio also includes rooftop solar and mini-hydro projects, serving clients like SM Development Corp., Nestlรฉ, and Rockwell Land.
