UAE and Indonesia Strengthen Collaboration in Clean Energy and Water Management

The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) and the Republic of Indonesia are exploring new avenues for collaboration in clean energy and water sustainability. HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA, recently met with HE Husin Bagis, Ambassador of Indonesia to the UAE, to discuss public-private partnerships and the exchange of expertise in advancing sustainable development.

During the meeting, Al Tayer highlighted DEWA’s achievements in decarbonisation, greenhouse gas reduction, and its contributions to global net-zero goals. He emphasised the significance of strengthening UAE-Indonesia cooperation in economic, trade, and investment sectors, with a particular focus on renewable energy and water security.

Al Tayer also outlined DEWA’s adoption of the Independent Power and Water Producer (IPWP) model, which has attracted international investments and resulted in record-low tariffs for solar energy projects. He reiterated Dubai’s commitment to the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050, both of which support the city’s transition to a sustainable economy. A key component of this transition is the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, the world’s largest single-site solar park.

DEWA’s role in driving public-private collaboration was also underscored, particularly in areas such as green hydrogen, smart grids, and circular economy practices. With a global reputation for efficiency and innovation, DEWA aligns its initiatives with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and positions Dubai as a leader in green investment and technology.

Ambassador Bagis commended DEWA’s pioneering initiatives and expressed Indonesia’s interest in working with the authority to improve access to clean and affordable water in Indonesia. He noted that water scarcity remains a significant challenge, especially in remote and arid regions, and emphasised the potential for DEWA’s expertise in water desalination and sustainable water management to serve as a model for similar projects in Indonesia.

The discussions mark a step toward deeper UAE-Indonesia cooperation in sustainability, as both nations continue to pursue long-term strategies for clean energy and water security.
