Invenergy Launches First Solar Center In Washington To Supply Power To Local Grid

Invenergy, the largest privately held company focused on developing, owning, and operating clean energy projects, has entered into a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with the Grant County Public Utility District (Grant PUD). Under this agreement, the Quincy Solar Energy Center will supply 120 megawatts (MW) of clean, reliable, and cost-effective solar power directly to the local electricity grid starting in 2027. This energy will be sufficient to meet the annual needs of more than 25,000 homes in Washington state.

The Quincy Solar project is located near Moses Lake, Washington, and plays a key role in helping Grant PUD achieve its target of securing 300 MW of solar power generation by 2027. Construction of the facility is expected to begin in late 2025, with commercial operations scheduled to commence by November 2027. The project will contribute significantly to the local economy, providing an estimated $27 million over its lifetime through local taxes, land costs, and lease payments.

John Mertlich, Grant PUD CEO and General Manager, stated, “As our county’s energy needs grow, our PPA with Invenergy’s Quincy Solar is another significant resource to meet local power demand. During the construction phase, the project is anticipated to support up to 200 jobs, offering employment opportunities in the region. Once operational, it will create approximately two full-time positions for operations and maintenance. Quincy Solar will be Invenergy’s first solar project to reach commercial operations in the state of Washington, expanding the company’s footprint and bringing its total energy generation capacity in the state to 860 MW.
