West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee inaugurated a slew of development initiatives totaling over โ‚น2,000 crore during her visit to Paschim Medinipur district, signaling a strong push towards sustainable infrastructure and energy development in the state.

A centerpiece of the announcements was the commissioning of a 112.5 MW solar power plant in Goaltore, Midnaporeโ€”one of the largest solar installations in eastern India. Developed across 430 acres, the project was built at a cost of โ‚น750 crore, with the majority of the funding (about 80%) sourced from German financial support and the remaining contribution from the state government.

The plant is expected to significantly boost the regionโ€™s renewable energy output and has the potential to expand by another 100 MW. It is part of a broader vision to position West Bengal as a leader in green energy. During her address, the Chief Minister also revealed plans for future solar ventures, including a massive 1,000 MW project in Purulia and a long-term goal of adding around 3,000 MW of renewable capacity.

In addition to the energy initiatives, foundation stones were laid for various welfare and infrastructure schemes worth nearly โ‚น393 crore. These include improvements in local facilities, rural development, and public services.

The announcements reflect the state’s strategic focus on sustainable development, reducing dependence on non-renewable sources, and creating employment opportunities through green energy infrastructure.
