On June 30, 2025, the Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited (SECI) issued a Notice Inviting Tender (NIT) for the development of a major battery energy storage project. SECI plans to set up a 600 MW/1200 MWh standalone Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) under Tranche-2 of the Market Component of the Viability Gap Funding (VGF) scheme. This project is part of India’s growing push to integrate large-scale storage solutions into the power grid and support renewable energy stability.

As part of the upcoming tender process, SECI will release two separate tenders. The first will be a Request for Selection (RfS) of a BESS supplier who will also provide comprehensive maintenance services. The second tender will be for the Balance of System (BoS) components required for setting up the BESS project. These components are critical for supporting the installation and operation of the energy storage systems.

Interested bidders are advised to regularly check SECI’s official website (www.seci.co.in) and the Bharat e-Tender portal (https://www.bharat-electronictender.com) for updates, notices, amendments, and clarifications. No separate notifications will be sent out individually.

This tender highlights SECI’s commitment to strengthening India’s energy storage infrastructure through competitive and transparent procurement. It also reflects the government’s focus on promoting advanced battery storage systems to improve grid reliability, manage renewable energy fluctuations, and accelerate the energy transition.
