VSB Italy has received the single authorisation (AU) necessary to move forward with the construction of its AgriPV solar project in Roseto degli Abruzzi, located in the Contrada San Giovanni area of the Abruzzo region. The project will span approximately 11.6 hectares of fenced land and is planned to have a total installed capacity of 7.24 megawatts (MW).
This project is part of VSB Italyโs wider effort to support the energy transition by developing renewable energy solutions that are in harmony with both the natural landscape and the agricultural use of the land. The company aims to achieve ready-to-build status by the end of 2025, with full operations expected to begin in 2026. Once operational, the solar installation is projected to supply clean electricity to around 3,800 people, contributing significantly to the regionโs shift toward sustainable energy.
Francesco Rossi, Managing Director of VSB Italy, stated, โThis project demonstrates how agriculture and the energy transition can go hand in hand, creating both environmental and economic value for the region. It also reflects the professionalism and teamwork that have driven this innovative, locally integrated initiative. My sincere thanks go to everyone for their commitment and high-quality work.โ
Dr Felix Grolman, CEO of VSB Group, mentioned, โI am immensely proud of what our colleagues at VSB Italy have achieved. Securing approval for such an advanced agrivoltaic project demonstrates not only technical excellence, but also a deep respect for the local context. It reflects our commitment to sustainable innovation and to shaping the energy transition in close harmony with regional development.โ
The solar farm is designed as a high-efficiency agrivoltaic system, which allows for the joint use of land for solar power generation and farming. The agricultural land will be used in rotation, alternating each year between vegetable crops such as asparagus and artichokes and forage crops like clover and vetch.
This dual-use model is intended to maintain agricultural productivity, protect soil quality, and support the local farming economy while simultaneously generating renewable energy. With this authorisation, VSB Italy reinforces its commitment to combining advanced clean energy technologies with environmental stewardship, while helping to drive local development and sustainability efforts.
