EnergyHub, a leading provider of grid-edge flexibility solutions, announced today its acquisition of Resideo Grid Services, a prominent company specializing in demand response aggregation and program management.
The acquisition comes amid a growing industry trend of consolidating distributed energy resource management systems (DERMS) onto a single integrated platform, enabling utilities to manage all distributed energy resources (DERs) as Virtual Power Plants (VPPs) increasingly incorporate EVs, batteries, and other DERs.
Virtual Power Plants and Edge DERMS
With electricity demand on the rise, VPPs are becoming crucial for utilities to provide reliable, affordable service. Edge DERMS platforms, such as EnergyHubโs, allow utility operators to orchestrate millions of grid-edge devices, scaling VPPs efficiently and cost-effectively.
Leadership Statements
โAs utilities face rising demand, theyโre using VPPs for fast, flexible capacity,โ said Seth Frader-Thompson, CEO of EnergyHub. โResideo Grid Services supports over two dozen utilities and markets with a strong reputation in demand response. Together, we now manage over 2.5 million DERs on one platform, enabling any utility to orchestrate any DER to meet evolving grid needs.โ
Strategic Benefits
The acquisition positions EnergyHub as a leading Edge DERMS provider, trusted by utilities to manage diverse DERs from a single platform. For Resideo Grid Servicesโ clients, the deal opens access to new DER classes, streamlining the deployment and expansion of DER programs through unified visibility and control.
โVPPs are the fastest, cheapest, and most customer-centric solution to load growth,โ Frader-Thompson added. โThis acquisition reinforces our strategy and our market leadership as VPPs become central to grid operations and system planning.โ
Client and Market Impact
Dave Oberholzer, General Manager at Resideo Grid Services, noted, โJoining EnergyHub allows us to offer clients a broader DER ecosystem and leverage our platforms and team to accelerate a reliable, cost-effective transition to a carbon-free grid.โ
EnergyHubโs platform is currently trusted by over 120 utilities serving more than 55 million customers, including APS, Duke Energy, Eversource, National Grid, and LADWP. The acquisition is expected to simplify deployment of new DER programs and enhance resource management at scale.
