The Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited (SECI) has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with three Odisha state-owned power entitiesโ€”Green Energy Development Corporation of Odisha Limited (GEDCOL), Odisha Hydro Power Corporation (OHPC) and Odisha Renewable Energy Development Agency (OREDA)โ€”to advance major renewable energy and storage initiatives in the state. The agreement marks a significant milestone in Odishaโ€™s clean energy transition and reinforces SECIโ€™s role in supporting Indiaโ€™s national renewable energy targets.

The MoU was signed during the Global Energy Leadersโ€™ Summit held in Puri from December 5โ€“7, 2025. Shri A.K. Naik, Executive Director, represented SECI, while the Odisha utilities were represented by Shri Pranab Kumar Mohanty, Managing Director, GEDCOL; Shri Amiya Kumar Mohanty, Director (Operations), OHPC; and Shri Saudutta Biplab Keshari Pradhan, CEO, OREDA. Senior officials from the Government of Odisha, the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE), and SECI attended the ceremony.

The collaboration outlines plans for developing a 1,000 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), pumped storage projects, and 2.5 GW of floating solar or solar-plus-storage capacity, along with other advanced renewable technologies. These projects are expected to significantly strengthen Odishaโ€™s renewable energy infrastructure, improve grid stability, and support the stateโ€™s long-term energy security.

The initiative is also expected to generate substantial employment opportunitiesโ€”both direct and indirectโ€”through associated contracts and project activities, contributing to local economic growth.

The MoU reflects accelerating momentum in Indiaโ€™s renewable energy sector and underscores the commitment of both SECI and Odishaโ€™s power utilities to building a sustainable and resilient energy ecosystem.
