Located in Village Khudigaon in the Dhubri District, this project is a historic milestone for the state, as it represents the first large-scale solar power facility in Assam. It is also SJVN’s first operational project in the North-Eastern Region. The foundation stone for the facility was laid virtually by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in March 2024, highlighting the national importance of this renewable energy initiative. Developed by SJVN Green Energy Limited (SGEL), the project has seen an investment of ₹367.44 crore and covers 330 acres of land leased from the Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL).

The Dhubri Solar Power Project is expected to generate 141.13 million units of electricity in its first year and a total of around 3,230 million units over a 25-year period. In addition to contributing significantly to the energy needs of the state, the project is projected to reduce carbon emissions by approximately 158,270 tonnes, demonstrating its environmental benefits.

During the event, SJVN officials highlighted that the project not only strengthens national energy security and supports sustainability goals but also provides employment opportunities for local communities, both directly and indirectly. The project was awarded through a competitive bidding process at a tariff of ₹3.92 per unit, reflecting the focus on delivering affordable renewable energy to Assam. The successful commissioning of the Dhubri Solar Power Project underscores the joint efforts of the Government of India and the Government of Assam in advancing clean energy solutions and promoting a sustainable future for the region.

This landmark solar project is expected to pave the way for further renewable energy development in Northeast India, encouraging investment and demonstrating the potential of solar energy in areas that were previously untapped.
