The Jollibee Group has transitioned its commissaries in the Philippines to 99% renewable electricity, marking a significant step in the companyโ€™s renewable energy and sustainability initiatives. The move leverages geothermal power sourced from First Genโ€™s Bac-Man Geothermal Inc., further strengthening operational resilience while reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

The switch-on ceremony, held on January 29 at the Jollibee Groupโ€™s commissary in Laguna, brought together company executives and local stakeholders to formally launch the use of renewable electricity at the facility. First Gen supplies the Jollibee Group with 11 MW of geothermal electricity, which is expected to reduce the companyโ€™s emissions by over 70% across its covered sites, supporting its Joy for Tomorrow sustainability agenda.

This transition builds on earlier renewable energy efforts, including the installation of 17,000 solar panels with over 9 MW capacity at the Groupโ€™s commissaries and distribution sites in Paranaque and Laguna, along with a Remote Energy Monitoring System to optimize electricity usage. These solar projects were completed in 2024.

Michael Ong, President for Manufacturing and Logistics of the Jollibee Group, said the milestone โ€œenables us to build a sustainable and reliable energy foundation for our growing operations, reducing our environmental footprint while ensuring energy stability for the future.โ€

The renewable shift also supports the Groupโ€™s global expansion, providing stable, reliable power for its operations across the Philippines and overseas. Joseph Tanbuntiong, Jollibee Group Philippines CEO and Global Head of the Jollibee Brand, highlighted the operational impact, stating, โ€œBehind every meal we serve is a long chain of work that begins in our commissaries. How we power these facilities matters. By shifting to renewable energy, we are ensuring our operations remain reliable and consistent as we grow.โ€

Carlo Vega, Chief Customer Engagement Officer at First Gen, added that the partnership underscores the companyโ€™s commitment to clean and dependable power, supporting the Jollibee Groupโ€™s sustainability journey from decarbonization toward a regenerative future.

The initiative aligns with relevant United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs), particularly those focusing on clean energy and climate action. In the Philippine context, geothermal energy is the only renewable source with baseload capability, offering a stable supply well-suited for industrial operations.
