The Department of Energy (DOE) has reported significant reductions in electricity and fuel consumption following the implementation of enhanced Flexible Work Arrangements (FWA) and fuel efficiency measures, generating estimated savings of ₱215,151 across two monitoring periods.

Data presented during the 23rd Inter-Agency Energy Efficiency and Conservation Committee (IAEECC) meeting on 16 March 2026 showed that electricity consumption declined from 45,010 kWh to 34,540 kWh between March 1–7 and March 8–14, marking a 23.26% reduction. This translated into estimated savings of ₱144,591, based on an average tariff of ₱13.81 per kWh.

The DOE attributed the reduction to the adoption of enhanced flexible work arrangements and stricter enforcement of electricity-saving measures during on-site operations.

Fuel consumption also recorded a notable decline. Monitoring data for March 2–7 and March 9–14 showed a drop from 2,724.64 litres to 1,841.92 litres, representing a 32.40% decrease across 59 DOE vehicles. The reduction of 882.72 litres resulted in estimated savings of ₱70,560, based on an average diesel price of ₱80 per litre.

Combined, the reductions highlight the immediate and measurable impact of targeted energy conservation measures within government operations.

In a message delivered during the meeting, Undersecretary Mario C. Marasigan conveyed remarks from Energy Secretary Sharon S. Garin, emphasizing the importance of government institutions leading by example in energy efficiency, particularly amid rising global oil prices linked to developments in the Middle East.

Secretary Garin stated that energy efficiency remains a national priority, noting that practical measures such as flexible work arrangements, disciplined vehicle usage, and adherence to conservation protocols can deliver substantial cost and energy savings without affecting public service delivery.

The DOE has urged all government agencies to continue complying with IAEECC resolutions and existing advisories on electricity and fuel conservation as part of broader efforts to promote responsible energy use across the public sector.
