Cosmic PV Power Begins Work on 1.1 GW Solar Cell Manufacturing Plant in Madhya Pradesh

In a strategic move to strengthen its position in India’s solar manufacturing ecosystem, Cosmic PV Power Limited has commenced development of a 1.1 GW solar cell manufacturing facility in Madhya Pradesh, signaling the company’s transition toward deeper vertical integration in the solar value chain.

The company recently performed the Bhumi Poojan ceremony for the upcoming facility in Narmadapuram district, marking the beginning of a manufacturing expansion that reflects the growing shift among Indian module manufacturers toward domestic cell production amid rising policy support and supply chain localization efforts.

Industry experts view the development as a critical step for Cosmic PV Power, as solar cell manufacturing remains one of the most strategically important segments in India’s renewable energy manufacturing landscape. While module manufacturing capacity has expanded rapidly across the country, domestic solar cell production continues to lag behind demand, creating opportunities for manufacturers to bridge supply gaps and reduce dependence on imports.

The facility will be established on 60 acres of industrial land allocated by the Madhya Pradesh government under a long-term lease framework, highlighting the state’s increasing role in attracting renewable energy manufacturing investments and building integrated industrial infrastructure for the clean energy sector.

With commercial commissioning targeted for FY 2027–28, the project is expected to strengthen Cosmic PV Power’s manufacturing portfolio by integrating cell production into its existing module manufacturing business. This backward integration strategy is increasingly becoming essential for manufacturers seeking better supply chain control, cost optimization, and improved market competitiveness under India’s evolving domestic manufacturing policies.

The expansion comes shortly after Cosmic PV Power scaled its solar module manufacturing capacity to 3 GW, supported by the commissioning of an additional TOPCon production line, indicating the company’s broader strategy to build an integrated solar manufacturing platform capable of serving India’s growing utility-scale and distributed solar markets.

From an industry standpoint, the investment reflects a broader structural transformation in India’s solar manufacturing sector, where companies are moving beyond assembly-focused operations to establish upstream capabilities. This shift is expected to enhance domestic value addition, strengthen energy security, and support India’s long-term renewable energy deployment targets.

As demand for domestically manufactured solar components continues to rise, experts believe investments such as Cosmic PV Power’s solar cell facility will play an important role in improving supply chain resilience and supporting the country’s ambition to emerge as a global solar manufacturing hub.
