Cleantech Solar Signs Open-Access Solar PPA with Sona BLW Precision Forgings Limited in Tamil Nadu

Cleantech Solar has entered into a renewable energy partnership with Sona BLW Precision Forgings Limited (Sona Comstar) to supply solar power through an open-access arrangement in Tamil Nadu, reinforcing the growing momentum of corporate clean energy procurement in India’s manufacturing sector.

Under the agreement, Sona Comstar will source renewable electricity from Cleantech Solar’s solar park located in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, through a group captive/open-access model. The partnership is expected to support the company’s sustainability and decarbonisation objectives while reducing reliance on conventional grid-based power.

The development reflects a broader industry shift as industrial and automotive manufacturers increasingly adopt long-term renewable energy sourcing strategies to manage energy costs, strengthen ESG performance, and align with global low-carbon supply chain requirements.

Tamil Nadu continues to emerge as a key market for open-access renewable energy projects due to its strong industrial ecosystem, established transmission infrastructure, and supportive policy environment. The state has witnessed significant growth in captive and third-party renewable energy installations, particularly among energy-intensive manufacturing industries.

The agreement also strengthens Cleantech Solar’s commercial and industrial (C&I) renewable energy portfolio in India. The company has been actively expanding its open-access solar capacity in Tamil Nadu, including the recent commissioning of large-scale solar assets within its renewable energy park infrastructure.

Industry observers note that open-access renewable energy models are gaining traction among corporate consumers as they provide long-term tariff visibility, lower operational emissions, and greater energy security. The trend is expected to accelerate further as Indian industries intensify their transition toward sustainable manufacturing and net-zero commitments.
