Advait Energy has announced the signing of a Battery Energy Storage Purchase Agreement (BESPA) with Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL) for the development of a 150 MW / 300 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project in Gujarat. The project will be established at the Bhesan 220 kV Substation located in Junagadh district and marks a major step in the company’s growing presence in India’s energy storage sector.
The project has been awarded under the Government of India’s Viability Gap Funding (VGF) scheme, which aims to support the deployment of large-scale battery energy storage infrastructure across the country. The initiative is designed to strengthen the power grid, improve energy reliability, and facilitate the integration of renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power.
According to the company, the project is expected to generate revenues exceeding ₹450 crore over its operational period. The battery energy storage system will play a key role in balancing electricity supply and demand by storing excess energy during periods of low consumption and releasing it when demand increases. This capability is becoming increasingly important as India continues to expand its renewable energy capacity.
The agreement represents a significant milestone for Advait Energy and highlights the growing importance of energy storage solutions in supporting the country’s clean energy transition. As renewable energy generation rises, battery storage projects are expected to become critical assets for ensuring grid stability and maintaining a reliable power supply.
The company described the project as an important achievement in its journey toward developing future-ready energy infrastructure. With the support of the VGF scheme and collaboration with GUVNL, the BESS project is expected to contribute to Gujarat’s energy security while supporting India’s broader renewable energy and sustainability goals.
