Avangrid, the U.S. subsidiary of Iberdrola, has begun installing solar panels at the 57 MWdc (41 MWac) Oregon Trail Solar project in Gilliam County, Oregon, marking a key construction milestone for the utility-scale solar facility.
Scheduled to enter commercial operation next year, the project will feature more than 100,000 solar panels and is expected to generate enough renewable electricity to power approximately 10,000 U.S. households annually.
According to the company, construction of the solar project is currently supporting around 200 jobs, contributing to local employment while advancing clean energy deployment in the region.
In addition to supplying renewable electricity, the project is expected to deliver long-term economic benefits through property tax revenues and other local contributions that will help fund public services, including schools and infrastructure.
The Oregon Trail Solar project is part of Avangrid’s expanding renewable energy portfolio in Oregon. It is located adjacent to the 205 MWdc (162 MWac) Pachwáywit Fields solar project, which is already operational, and the 41 MW/82 MWh Shutler Energy Storage battery energy storage system.
Avangrid currently operates more than 2.5 GW of installed generating capacity across Oregon. The company also maintains its National Training Center in Sherman County and a major corporate office in Portland.
The project further strengthens Iberdrola’s renewable energy investments in the United States as the company continues expanding electricity infrastructure to support rising power demand, enhance energy security, create local employment, and accelerate the country’s transition to a more sustainable energy system.
