Noon Srl, JA Solar Equip Sicily’s Saracen Sands Hotel With 1 MW Solar and 2 MWh BESS

Saracen Sands Hotel & Conference Centre in Sicily is expected to save around €500,000 annually on energy costs following the installation of an integrated solar carport and battery energy storage system.

Located in Isola delle Femmine near Palermo, the resort’s new system is projected to generate 1.5 GWh of electricity annually, meeting up to 90% of the hotel’s electricity demand and reducing CO₂ emissions by approximately 320 tonnes per year. The project has an expected ROI of less than four years.

Renewable energy specialist Noon Srl designed and delivered the system, which includes an 850 kW solar carport with 2,500 JA bifacial double-glass modules. Combined with the hotel’s existing 150 kW rooftop solar installation, the resort now has 1 MW of total solar capacity.

The project also features eight 261 kWh JAPlanet batteries, providing more than 2 MWh of energy storage. The batteries store excess solar generation during the day, enabling the hotel to operate for up to five hours in the evening without drawing electricity from the grid.

The modular battery system can be expanded to 5.2 MWh, allowing the resort to increase storage capacity as its energy requirements grow. The hotel is also exploring EV charging facilities powered by its renewable energy system.

Salvo Zappalà, CEO of Dimsi Hospitality Group, said the investment would help the resort reduce exposure to rising electricity prices while building greater energy resilience.

Giuseppe Puleo, CEO of Noon Srl, said the project demonstrates the growing value of integrated solar and storage solutions for commercial and industrial customers seeking greater energy savings and flexibility.
