Resonia Ltd. has acquired a 100% stake in Balsane Power Transmission Limited (BPTL), a special purpose vehicle established for an intra-state power transmission project in Maharashtra with 3 GW of power evacuation capacity. The acquisition was completed on September 28, 2026.
Spanning approximately 210 km across Dhule and Nashik districts, the project is designed to strengthen intra-state power transfer and facilitate the integration of additional generation capacity into Maharashtra’s transmission network.
The project was awarded by the Maharashtra State Transmission Utility (STU), with REC Power Development and Consultancy Limited (RECPDCL) serving as the bid process coordinator.
As part of the project, Resonia will establish a 765/400/220 kV Air Insulated Substation (AIS) at Balsane in Dhule. The facility will include two 1,500 MVA, 765/400 kV interconnecting transformers (ICTs) and four 500 MVA, 400/220 kV ICTs.
The associated transmission infrastructure will connect Balsane with key nodes across Maharashtra through a combination of 765 kV, 400 kV and 220 kV transmission lines. These will include connections with the proposed Malegaon Substation and the existing Shivajinagar and Vikharan substations.
Resonia said the creation of the 765 kV network is expected to strengthen interconnection between the Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS) and Intra-State Transmission System (InSTS), enhance transmission capacity and help address requirements in the existing transmission network.
Commenting on the development, Resonia CEO Prashant Sinha said Maharashtra’s rising electricity requirements and expanding renewable energy capacity require a transmission network capable of supporting reliable and efficient power flows. He added that the Balsane project would add 3 GW of evacuation capacity and strengthen the transmission backbone between Dhule and Malegaon.
The Balsane development also marks Resonia’s first intra-state transmission project in Maharashtra, expanding on the company’s experience in developing and executing inter-state transmission projects across India.
Through the project, Resonia aims to expand its transmission footprint while supporting the development of a stronger and more flexible electricity grid in Maharashtra.
